Honors: PHIL 308
I loved this ethics course! I can’t express this enough. Dr. Moore, our professor, kept the class discussion oriented to keep his students comfortable and willing to participate. Ethics, usually a touchy subject for groups of people with varying opinions, was transformed for me. The atmosphere created was one of acceptance, comfortability, humor, and intrigue. Every class contained new, interesting information. The professor himself is very clearly enthralled with the subject he teaches, and it shows in the enthusiasm he puts forth and transfers to his students. The class material itself encouraged me to ask questions, and much of the material focussed of testing the waters between truly understanding what stands as morally “right” or morally “wrong,” regardless of personal beliefs. It was very intriguing, and even at times conflicting, for what I believed was morally right or wrong was tested, and I even began to analyze my own thoughts (in a good way!). It was thought-provoking, eye-opening, and overall probably the most enjoyable honors course I have taken so far— if not the most interesting class I have ever taken outside of my major.

Below is the final paper I wrote for this class. A total of 4.5 pages, it is a paper that I am very proud of. About two to three weeks worth of research went into the development of this paper, a time that was filled with teacher consultation and multiple revisions. The final product was created with many of our in-class discussions in mind– going beyond biases while still arguing strongly for my own perspective.
