The Appreciation of Music

Aesthetic Expressions Pillar – MUSC 224

I am not a musically inclined person. The last music class that I took was 6th grade band and I didn’t realize that my clarinet was broken until the last month of school, I just thought I was terrible. So, you could so that I was not thrilled to take a class that focused on classical music. Most of the class was based on music that I have never heard of before and will probably never hear again, but our final project combined the music and terminology that we learned in class with modern award-winning movies. In selected groups, we were given a movie to dissect the music and how the music ties in with the plot. Each group then had to present in front of the class for most of the class period. Part of the grade for this project came from just watching movies! My group’s movie was Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. If it wasn’t for this project, I would never have watched this movie on my own, but I was glad that I did because it was a really good movie. Attached is our analysis of the music and the ties between the music and events in the movie. Now when I watch movies, I pay more attention to the film score to better understand the plot.
