Your Feedback Needed: Library Web Redesign

One of the things we often hear from you is that our website is a bit outdated. We agree!

We’ve been working hard to put together a redesign, and now we need your feedback. So click around and let us know what you think! It’s still a work in progress, so pieces, like the guides, haven’t been fully updated yet.

We will incorporate your ideas this summer. While the website may undergo design changes between now and when we go live, we’re especially interested in if you can find the content you need.

Beta Website

Quick facts:

  • URL of beta website: http://longwood.beta.libguides.com/home/
  • Estimated date it will go live? Sometime the first week of August, before the Fall semester begins.
  • Does it work on tablets and phones? It is responsive, meaning it is meant to work on all screen sizes.
  • How can I give feedback? Fill out our feedback form for anonymous feedback. If you’d like a reply, please email your feedback to libweb@longwood.edu.

Student Research Made Quicker and Easier

The Library understands you may want the fastest and most direct way to find and access the resources you need for your coursework.   With the start of Spring semester 2015, we have introduced a new feature in the Library’s OneSearch portal. In the upper left of the results page when searching in OneSearch, you’ll notice the header Refine Results, and beneath that, Current Search.  Under Current Search, now you will find the default limiter, “In Print and Online at Longwood.”  This automatically directs the search service to retrieve only the records for material which is directly available for your use, whether physically or electronically – ignoring all listings in databases for materials which are not either owned by the Library or available through Library resources.

Limiter in OneSearch for items at Longwood

This limiter can also be removed if you wish to search more broadly;  clicking the white-on-blue “X” to the right of “In Print and Online at Longwood” disables the limiter, enabling the retrieval of citations and abstracts for un-owned materials, for which you may place Interlibrary Loan Requests (by clicking on the “Request through interlibrary loan” link in blue text beneath each result’s brief record).  Closing your search page and restarting another search will re-enable the “In Print and Online at Longwood” limiter if you again wish to limit your search results.

Help us by filling out a quick survey!

For her internship, business student Jenny Silva will be helping the Library create personas. Personas are profiles of typical users of a product or place, created through actual data gathered from users and merged to create fictional (but likely) users to help guide decisions and better understand users needs and wants.

To gather data, we’ve created anonymous surveys that students, faculty and staff can complete. All answers are optional. Even if you’ve never used the Library, we are interested in your thoughts. Thank you for participating!

How to Print

The Library’s computer printers use LancerCa$h. All users will need a current LancerCard or Guest Card for printing. Guest cards can be purchased for one dollar at a LancerCa$h add-value station, one of which is in the Library between the copiers. Printing costs 9 cents per page for black and white, and one dollar per page for color.

To print, you will log on to any of the desktop computers in the Library and open the file you wish to print, then follow the steps below.

  1.  Go to the File menu and choose “Print”.
  2.  Select Printer 1 or 2 for black & white or Color for color printing.
  3.  Click Print.
  4.  For Students: When prompted, put in a job description in the first line and your LancerNet ID in the second line. Your LancerNet ID is what you use to sign into canvas and MyLongwood.
For Guests: When prompted, put in a job description in the first line and the last 5 digits from the back of the guest card in the second line.
  5.  Go to the printer station located against the glass wall in the Learning Commons.
  6.  Swipe your LancerCard.
  7.  Select your print job and click Print.
  8.  Retrieve your black and white print job from Printer 1 or 2 located beside the computers. Retrieve your color print job from the color printer which is located to the left, past the copiers and the double doors.
