Longwood Seminar [LSEM 100]

The Longwood Seminar class is the first general education goal every Longwood student must meet and is most commonly referred to as LSEM. To learn more about my experience with my LSEM class, visit the Goal 1 – Longwood Seminar page under my General Education Courses tab.

By far, the most rewarding part of my LSEM class was the service trip on which we embarked. The fifteen Honors freshmen, our peer mentor, and our faculty advisor piled in a few cars and visited Holliday Lake State Park in Appomattox, VA so that we could help the park rangers with some park maintenance. First we dismantled a tent from an event the park had recently hosted; then we learned how to use some landscaping tools and walked the trails of the park, leveling the paths, removing dangerous roots and small tree stumps, and making small drainage ditches as we went. IMG_9821 a

The weather was beautiful, my Honors classmates were able to bond while physically working together, and we were able to make some improvements at Holliday Lake State Park. The experience is one I will not soon forget, and one I am proud that I was able to have.
