Community

HONORS IS HOME; HONORS IS FAMILY

Being a member of the Cormier Honors College (CHC) is one of the great joys of my life. Whenever the Honors College is being explained or promoted, “community” always comes up in the conversation. For Longwood Honors students like me, being a member of the CHC means so much more than getting to register early for small, unique classes. It means becoming part of a family that is supportive, encouraging, uplifting, caring, fun, and anything but competitive.

Being part of the CHC community has helped me become a part of other communities as well. From the Longwood Ambassadors to the Longwood Student Body as a whole, I would not feel nearly as “at home” everywhere on campus as I do if it were not for my CHC family. From my first week of college until now, I have never lacked an abundance of upperclassmen (and even peers my own age!) passing by me with a smile and a warm greeting. So many times, especially early on when I was still getting acclimated to college life, I had CHC upperclassmen stop me on the sidewalk or in an academic building or even in the dining hall to ask me how I was doing and if I needed anything. That, to me, is what family, Honors at Longwood, and commuinity is all about.
