Hi guys, I am Madison Lantz and I am a junior at Longwood University with a liberal study major and a concentration in elementary education. For as long as I remember, I’ve always wanted to be a teacher. I believe this stemmed from the fact that I have always had wonderful teachers that I could lean on growing up. To enhance my career choice, I have worked at a daycare for the last five years. Seeing the children every day has solidified my choice of wanting to become a teacher. My career goal is to allow my students the same opportunity for connection, that I had with my teachers. After graduation, I want to go back to my home town and become an elementary school teacher.

This ePortfolio will serve as my final exam for my English 400 Advanced Writing Seminar class. Each tab above demonstrates the assignments we have completed in the class. Furthermore, each tab will have a reflection on each assignment. Throughout completing these assignments, I have been able to reflect on my own writing strategies as well as learn new ones. I have been able to learn these strategies by evaluating the course outcomes and applying them to my own writing. I believe that I need to continue to work on engaging in the process of citizen leadership by investigating multiple perspectives on important public issues, however, the next three semesters of college will help me achieve this objective. Below are the course outcomes for English 400.

Students will:

1) engage in the process of citizen leadership by investigating multiple perspectives on important public issues;

2) understand the nature of public discourse/debate as determined by purpose, audience, and context;

3) choose appropriate formats in writing for a variety of purposes;

4) analyze the effectiveness of their own texts and processes for specific rhetorical situations;

 5) understand how the knowledge, skills, and values learned in general education are interwoven and interrelated, and how they can contribute to the process of citizen leadership.
