Résumé
Sample Work Documents
The first example I have is an excerpt from a rhetorical analysis I wrote last semester in English 400 that highlighted Beyoncé’s Lemonade video. I wanted to emphasize the importance of diversity in terms of perspective and researching in a piece of work and how I am actively communicating my own thoughts and feelings in this piece.
My professor, Dr. Haffner, even said “Probably the paper’s greatest strength is the diversity of source material and the consistent inclusion of very well-chosen evidence, both from secondary sources and the album itself. You have a keen eye for important details.”
The next sample I have is an Equity Literacy Checklist poster I made for my English 483 class, that is centered around writing in the elementary school classroom. The poster gives an example assignment for students to talk about a place they “visited” in class because previously they learned about different countries each week and the culture of the people who live there. Having them revisit this and use prior knowledge will only strengthen their abilities to effectively write about what they learned. I do believe that these skills and example can and should be applied to middle school students as well.
Finally, I have an outline for a lesson dealing with how to make descriptive sentences using concrete specific nouns and verbs. This lesson teaches students the importance of understanding the desired meaning, tone, and feelings a piece of work can have and how that has an impact on interpreting other’s work, along with their own. This lesson was also centered around an American Dream project, which encourages students to get outside of their comfort zone and learn about experiences from different people and their perception of the American Dream.
