Correspondence

Reflection:

By completing my Persuasive Letter and Bad News Letter, I have learned about writing in professional contexts that I have previously had little exposure to. Relevant course outcomes that these two assignments connect to are: analyzing and producing writing genres commonly found in the professional world, creating professional documents that uses plain English, and conducting research to create a variety of professional documents. The Persuasive Letter that I wrote is a professional governmental piece of writing. The Bad News Letter is a professional business piece of writing, specifically, a memo. In both documents I used clear, concise, and grammatically correct language. While writing the Persuasive Letter, I refined my ability to write persuasively while appealing to ethos, pathos, and logos. This was done by writing to a Councilor and stating facts, details, and concerns that played on all three concepts. Through my Bad News Letter, I gained valuable practice in writing a business memo as an email. Although I kept my language clear, concise, and correct, I failed to be courteous. However, through this I furthered my understanding of professional business writing.
