Microbiology for Healthcare Professionals 304
In this course we learned about things on a cellular level. We learned about bacteria’s features that aid and work against it when certain temperatures and other environmental factors occur. Through this course we are also taught why and how bacteria will spread and grow. this course opened my eyes to seeing how people read and test certain bacteria to determine what it is. I really enjoyed learning in this class. The material was difficult but extremely interesting which is what made you want to learn. This course has helped me understand what people do when they test the disease because I have done it in lab. In my future career as a nurse I will work with the people who identify the disease from my patients. This class has furthered my appreciation for these people and understand the process of what the lab technicians go through to deliver us with answers.
For my artifact I have chosen the video presentation I completed with a partner to descried what legionella pneumophila is and how it effects a person. The focus of this project was to incorporate everything we have learned in class and apply it to one bacterium.
Humans: Creatures of the Coast ENSC 350
I learned a lot about our environment throughout this course. This was very insightful because I have not focused my attention too much on the coastal environment. This course has shown me the importance of the coast and how it impacts the world around us. We also mentioned the political side of things that explained how money also has a factor to play.
The article I have chosen for this course is the report on an article of our choosing. I decided to chose the one about Alaskan Seabirds because I used to live in Alaska. I thought it would be interesting to see what is happening in the environment. The article was very informative on things going on in Alaska. I had no idea the oil spill from so long ago can still be seen on animals and in clumps throughout the water.
Foundations Nursing Practice 230
In this course we learned more skills for in the clinical setting and how the hospitals are all different. We went into clinical prepared and ready to practice our skills while being open to learn new things. I enjoyed clinical because I felt even closer to my goal of a nurse. When talking through things in class I was able to think in a way as if I was at clinical. The decisions we make are based on our patients needs as well as their safety.
The article I have chosen is my care plan I wrote for one of my patients. With these care plans we formulate interventions to do in order to achieve a goal. The goals are based on the patients disease and what they need as a person. These care plans are used to help prioritize patients and help in formulating a step by step plan to help the patients. The care plans change with the patients condition. If they are not improving, we then make adjustments to the plan to find what works for that patient. We also incorporate the patients personal views and values to ensure they will be motivated to work with the healthcare team.
Principles of Pathophysiology 310
In this class we learned about diseases. We learned how they effect the person through outward signs and lab results. We also learned a lot about whether or not something is considered to be a normal result of aging or abnormal at any age. This course helped me see the patient and the disease holistically. I was able to recognize the disease and determine how it may cause harm to a person and what signs and lab numbers do I need to pay close attention.
The article I have chosen is a discussion post I made on dyslipidemia. We were required to participate in discussion boards on certain body systems. I enjoyed this because it made me research certain diseases and remember easily.
Biomedical Ethics 315
This class was interesting because it made you view things from different views. I enjoy learning about different ways people view certain topics. In turn they allow my to make a better argument for my own point of view or adjust my own view. This course was the first online course I had taken. It was a little difficult to organize myself and ensure I completed the assignments, however I grew to be fond of it. With online courses I was able to complete assignments in a timely fashion and work ahead of time. In this course they brought up controversial topics such as abortion and the changing of DNA to ensure the “perfect” human. We were then asked to explain our point of view with others on discussion boards and reply.
The article I chose explains the different view points discussed throughout the course. I used this to show all that I have learned. Learning new view points allows you to create a better understanding of one another and find common ground.
