The first chart is about educational attainment. I focused more on the population on 18 year-olds to 24 year-olds. There was a total amount of 14,398,370 people that that at least some college or associate’s degree. Which I found rather interesting since people tend to talk like people with just a high school diploma outnumber those with some college.
The second chart is about selected social characteristics in the United States. I focused more on the households by type. Family households outnumbered the rest of the houses, which was surprising to me. I know that single-family households have grown, I just assumed that they had gotten above family households.

As a senior, I feel like I am slowly becoming an expert in teaching. Teaching is something that, in my opinion, is hard to become an expert in. Education is something that is changing all the time.
While at Longwood, I spent a whole week in an elementary school classroom, as a part of one of my classes. Even though it was only for a week, I felt like this experience opened my eyes to the life of a teacher. I have also been given leadership opportunities that will help me grow as a future teacher. Recently, I was elected as the Community Service Chair in my organization. Even though this is not directly linked to being a teacher, it is helping me grow as a future leader.
I have had a few jobs before coming to school. My very first job was as a babysitter. I had to take care of three children, all three different ages. My next job was as a camp counselor at a summer camp. I was in charge of the supervision of the children, and if need be the discipline of them as well. My next and current job is a sales associate at Victoria’s Secret. Each job requires different skill sets, but they require a level of professionalism.

While I was searching through the internet, I came across an interesting news article. The Article is, “Poll: States with Walkouts See More Support for Rasing Teachers’ Pay,” written by Peter Olsen-Phillips. According to a poll, states, where school walkouts have been occurring, are seeing more support for raising teacher’s salaries. This is also linked to the support of school choice. Along with the growth in support for higher salaries, there is more support for charter schools as well. As a future teacher, this is something that peaks my interest. Teacher pay and charter schools are both subjects that tend to be slightly controversial in the education community.
When it comes to the salary, some people say that teachers should get paid so much more while others say they earn enough considering that they are just with children all day. When I was in high school, I ran into some of my teachers while they were at their second job, because they weren’t getting paid enough just teaching. People don’t realize that teachers are responsible for more than just making sure a child can recite their ABC’S, but making sure they are able to function in the real world when they are on their own.
