COMM-360-01: Contemporary Practices in Communications

  • The main focus of this class was to learn how to effectively and appropriately get your foot in the door of the working world. I learned how to finely craft targeted cover letters and resumes. We were also shown in this class the many different directions our major could take us. I showed what I learned through this assignment, in which we had to create a targets cover letter and resume for a job of our choosing.

COMM 210-03: Media and Society

  • Media and Society is focused around what the definition of “media” entails, but also trends of social media and how it affects the way we view media. This class taught me how to identify trends in media, it showed me why we view media the way we do, and lastly, it showed me how much of an impact different variables of media have on society. This class made us question and examine our own contribution to media throughout the course of a whole day in the following assignment.

COMM-101-04: Public Speaking

  • The main focus of this Public Speaking class was to show students how to adequately write a targeted and informational speech, and then execute it. Through the knowledge and experience I was able to gain from this class I learned how to properly, clearly, and knowledgeably speak to a crowd on a particular subject. An assignment I was able to display this new skillset best would be the informative speech I gave regarding the Orca species.

COMM-141-01: Introduction to Media Writing

  • In Introduction to Media Writing I learned the ins and outs of Associated Press. I now have the ability to effectively write an unbiased press release. I also learned the right way to credibly report on news and current events. An assignment that would best display this is a writing assignment we did where we had to report on the current events of an organization or department on campus, mine being the art department.
