‘I’m All Shook Up’: Assessing the Impact of Criminal Justice Experiential Learning using ELVIS (Experiential Learning Variables and Indicators Scale)

This presentation shares results from the use of an under-utilized survey instrument, the ELVIS (Experiential Learning Variables Indicator Scale), in assessing both the quality, as well as the residual value of students’ experiences learning about Illegal immigration enforcement and detention while interacting with detainees through teaching non-native English speakers English as a Second Language at the Farmville Immigration Detention Center (ICA).

Presenter Bio:

Dr. Connie Koski received her Ph.D. in Criminology & Criminal Justice from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Her research interests include issues in policing and criminal justice educational practices, and her teaching interests revolve around experiential learning and  classroom activities that seek to “humanize the other” for future criminal justice practitioners.
