Dr. Michele Norman & Taylor Magda ’14
The first time Taylor Magda ’14 met with her adviser, Dr. Michele Norman, she expected simply to put a face with a name and ask a few scheduling questions. But what she thought would be a quick meeting turned into a long, warm conversation that included discussion of their backgrounds, academic and personal commonalities, and Magda’s aspirations. It was the first such meeting of many to come.
“I think we clicked because she sensed that I had the passion and drive for what I wanted to do,” said Magda, who is majoring in communication sciences and disorders. We also both have laid back personalities so it made our introduction very easy going and stress-free. By the time I left Dr. Norman’s office, I’d felt I’d made a friend.”
The feeling was mutual.
“We definitely clicked,” said Norman, associate professor and undergraduate program coordinator. “Typically a first meeting is brief and bureaucratic, but not ours. After we got through business, Taylor—who expresses herself very well—really opened up to me. We talked about life in and out of school, and the best ways for her to attain her goals. I’ve been around a long time and have seen a lot. I hope Taylor can glean a little from what I’ve experienced. Mostly it’s related to the major, but sometimes that extends beyond academics.”
“Our relationship is special,” said Magda. “I know that, even after graduation, Dr. Norman and I will stay in touch. She’ll always want what is best for me.”
