The D’amilios are a famous family that blew up and receive a reality TV show on Hulu because their daughter, Charli D’Amilio, became famous on TikTok shortly before the worldwide pandemic began. Due to Charli’s quick rise in fame adjusting to this new lifestyle was a big journey for their family. Charli’s parents, Heidi, and Mark were always prided for how much they protected their daughters with this rise in fame, and making sure that keeping their family glued together is very important. Both Charli and her older sister, Dixie, received a lot of hate on the internet and they have been very open about the ways that it negatively affects them. They were constantly bashed for not having jobs and people think because they’re influencers they don’t do anything else. This is why they wanted to create this show called, The D’amilios, to open the outside world to what occurs in their day-to-day life and issues they run into. Such as family, mental health, and physical health while also showing the positive aspects of their life such as friendships and their family bond. Prior to watching this show, I was unaware of what type of content it would be about. I will say I was very impressed with how much of their lives and struggles they really showed. The first season basically just introduces key people in their lives and what they do daily. In the second season, they began to show more vulnerable moments and become more comfortable on the show. A show that this felt similar is Keeping Up with the Kardashians, the reason for this is because they show the family dynamic and the raw moments that they have while also keeping us entertained by their hectic and public lifestyle. These types of shows draw us in because it’s a lifestyle we love to dream of but believe we can’t obtain. Throughout this show the producers do a very good job of respecting the girl’s privacy and making sure they’re comfortable with what’s being recorded and said on the show. The raw moments that they provide are I think what made the show interesting for me, especially when they discuss the topic of mental health because people relate to the struggle which is why speaking out can be beneficial. It is also interesting to see the business aspect of their life because it’s not your usual nine to five and they are constantly doing deals with businesses and traveling consistently. If you’re someone who takes an interest in reality TV shows like Keeping Up with the Kardashians, I believe that The D’amilio show would be up your alley. Going through the first season is a little boring in my opinion but season two dives more into the uncomfortable topics and situations in their life that they weren’t ready or able to discuss at the time.
