Letter to Senior Self

Dear senior self,

I am writing this just as I am finishing my freshman year, and I can’t wait to see what the next four years bring. This year was definitely a roller coaster; I had a class with a professor that drove me nuts, I chose my major and minor for the fist and hopefully last time, I made so many good friends, and most importantly, I survived my first year of college, something I never thought would happen. When you read this, you will be finishing senior year, which I can’t even manage imagining right now.

I have no idea what my life will be like four years from now, but I hope you are happy with whatever happens. If you decided to change majors or anything else, I hope you are happy with that decision. I hope the friends I made this year have stuck with you through all four years. I hope you have soaked up every moment and lived them to the fullest. You are extremely lucky to have had the privilege of attending such a wonderful place, and I pray that you feel this way in four years.

As you look back on these past years, truly appreciate all you have accomplished and all the people that have supported you. Most importantly, as you look forward to starting the next chapter of your life, never forget where you came from and everything that has inspired you and motivated you. The future can be scary and threatening, but you have to keep reminding yourself that you can do whatever you set your mind to. As Dr. Seuss wrote, “You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You’re on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who’ll decide where to go…”

Sincerely,

Your past self
