BIOL 114

I took this course because it was both a major and pillar requirement. CSDS requires all students to earn at least a B in BIOL-114 and I was able to achieve this in the Fall semester.

This course was my first challenging course in college and taught me a lot about what was to come for me at Longwood. I expected this course to be fairly easy, as I had taken Biology in high school. I found that it was a lot different and a lot more was expected from the students in this course than I was expecting.

I found that this course was especially difficult for me because it was specifically geared towards future teachers, which is not my major. The SOL project was hard for me because I was nervous about talking in front of the class. Although this was something I didn’t really love taking, it taught me that talking, and presenting isn’t that big of a deal as long as you are well prepared.

This course also helped me learn how to study with bigger groups of people, instead of just reviewing by myself. In high school, I only knew how to study alone, which was an issue when I got to Longwood. I struggled with certain topics in the beginning, and after going over that material with other people, I realized how much easier reviewing for tests was when there were people to help you understand things you didn’t.

The artifact I chose to include in my blog was my lab report. I remember this project being especially challenging because it was one of the first scientific research projects that I had ever completed. I feel like this document really shows a good start for my scientific writing abilities and I hope I can compare this to another future lab report to see my progress.
