Welcome everyone, I’m Vanessa!
I’m a senior at Longwood University, I’m majoring in psychology and minoring in Spanish. My goal is to become a pediatric occupational therapist one day. I really enjoy helping out other people, especially children with disabilities. By becoming a pediatric occupational therapist I’ll have the opportunity to help children who are still developing, work on and improve their everyday tasks. With that, I really enjoy learning about the development of children and how they change throughout the years. As of right now, I work at a daycare with children ages two to four, and I love it. I also volunteer at Jill’s House which is a Christian non-profit organization that serves children with disabilities. Volunteering at Jill’s House is a very rewarding experience for me because I get to help out children as well as helping the parents by giving them a little break. Volunteering there has led me to what I want to do in the future as a career, and has only made me all the more excited to become a pediatric occupational therapist.
Nowadays social media is a huge part of many people’s everyday life. I think that taking this course will help many of us (students) get a better understanding of how to properly use the world wide web, by making sure whatever we post online is appropriate. Personally, I have always been told to be careful of the things I post online because everyone can see it, and that includes parents, coworkers, etc., also I have been told that often times when it comes to applying for jobs things like social media come up and are reviewed for any inappropriate use. Although having an online persona can have its cons, it also has its pros. Establishing a good persona online can bring you many opportunities in your profession by networking through websites like LinkedIn.
The main goal of this blog is to be able to express my thoughts on current social issues as well as improve my writing along the way.
