The following is a sample of the poetry that I have created over the last few years. These two poems were previously published in the November 2020 issue of K’in Literary Magazine.
Autism: A Villanelle
I am a diagnosis with a brain,
the chilling tale that Facebook’s learned to spread.
My every move’s designed to bring you pain.
Consider me a bouncing hurricane,
oblivious to what’s outside my head.
I am a diagnosis with a brain.
A passerby insists I’ve gone insane.
Friends, roommates, leaders, teachers, all have fled.
My every move’s designed to bring you pain.
They try to make me normal, but in vain.
I’m skidding on my broken, reckless sled.
I am a diagnosis with a brain.
“Don’t vaccinate,” conspiracists proclaim,
for being me is worse than being dead.
My every move’s designed to bring you pain.
I’m doomed to be my family’s ball and chain,
and yet, I’m stabbed by every tear they shed.
I am a diagnosis with a brain.
My every move’s designed to bring you pain.
Special Interest
(A Catena Rondo Poem)
I drag along my special interest everywhere I go.
It lurks within the luggage of my odd, defective brain,
ready to be pulled from my head and used to entertain.
I drag along my special interest everywhere I go.
It lurks within the luggage of my odd, defective brain,
a loop of all I love that I would like the chance to share.
I’ll talk about it nonstop! Think it’s stupid? I don’t care!
It lurks within the luggage of my odd, defective brain,
a loop of all I love that I would like the chance to share.
I’m just a walking recap. I’m reciting every scene.
I’m happy to use details to become a human screen,
a loop of all I love that I would love the chance to share.
I’m just a walking recap. I’m reciting every scene.
I drag along my special interest everywhere I go,
and to this day, I’m searching for someone who wants to know.
I’m just a walking recap. I’m reciting every scene.
I drag along my special interest everywhere I go.
It lurks within the luggage of my odd, defective brain,
ready to be pulled from my head and used to entertain,
I drag along my special interest everywhere I go.
