Professional Self

  1. What is my purpose to work? I have many different reasons why I want to get a future job and work, some of them are: to make money, to complete life goals, to give purpose to my day and life, to make a living to support myself, and my future family. I want to be able to have things to do during the day, and in order to pay for stuff I need to work for money. With my future job that I want, teaching, this is also a rewarding job. Working with kids and teaching them new information and watching them grow as students.
  2. What motivates me? Things that motivate me are making plans with family and friends, knowing that there is a purpose in what I am doing, and not wanting to disappoint others. When making plans I know that I have to get the not so fun stuff done with before the plans, which motivates me to get stuff done. I also get scared that I may disappoint my family, which pushes me to try harder at things, so I won’t.
  3. What are jobs/experiences that have made me feel fulfilled? A job that has made me feel the most fulfilled is teaching summer school and was in a ESL classroom (English Secondary Language). Working one on one with students who really struggled and helping them. Another job is that I am server in a restaurant at home; this as taught me a lot about social awareness and customer service. Some of my coworkers, and supporting a full family with this money, and seeing how hard they work, makes me work harder! And an experience I have is my EC position for my sorority; I am VP of Learning and Development. I help transition the new girls we get into the chapter. I teach them about the history of ZTA, help me get there bigs, and more!
  4. Reflecting on my work experiences I have had, things I have enjoyed are while working making money, I am also getting experience, and it is rewarding. I am putting in the effort and making money back is something that i like about working. While also being able to use whatever I learn in all three experiences for future jobs and knowledge about life. And it is rewarding teaching little kids over the summer, and seeing in customer service how people were raised and their manners when serving it makes me thankful for how my parents raised me.
  5. Reflecting on my work experiences I have had, some things I have not enjoyed was the early hours, the behind the scenes work, and rude people. Something that I will need to get used to is waking up early, and having a big smile at 7 in the morning, when working work little kids. It usually just takes me a bit in the mornings to get fully awake and that is something I will need to figure out with my future job. Something with both teaching, and my EC position is the work I do when no one is around, and don’t realize that it is part of the job. And when serving people who are only rude for no reason, really makes me hate serving sometimes, but I remember that it makes me better now when dealing with people like that because I know I will deal with rude parents, and people later in life.
  6. My soft skills are adaptability, communication, and empathy. My hard skills are Adobe, Docx/Drive, Canva design.
  7. If someone were to describe things I am good at, I would think they would say that I am organized, that I am a good listener , and that I am make good decisions. On my computer I keep many lists of what is coming up, what I need to do the day of, and keep things very neat and tidy. I think I am a good listener and I think others would agree because a lot of people come to me about advice or just to talk about things with me. And before making decisions I like to look at the different choices.
  8. The NACE of critical thinking has shown that I have competency by using critical thinking by applying what I know when making choices and decisions. When answering questions on test, or making decisions on how I want to handle something with my EC position. I have had to use critical thinking when debating if I want to switch my major or not.
  9. The NACE of professionalism that I have competency by wearing appropriate clothing, getting things done on time, being respectful, and organized. Being a future teacher I have already in placements, and in future placements have to wear school appropriate clothing. Getting work done when working with other teachers done on time, and for my students before class starts. Being respectful when working with a whole school of adults.
  10. The NACE of communication that I have competency by relying information to my new members on information they need to know about the chapter. The communication I have had with my placement teachers on Longwood school schedule vs the elementary school schedule. And professional communications when communicating to my tables about our kitchen/orders.
  11. The NACE of teamwork that I have competency is working with the rest of EC. Trying to come up with ways to keep improving our chapter, about different events in the chapter and who needs to do what. Working with my placement teachers, while also learning from them. And working with coworkers, if someone is struggling or busy, helping them out with a table or task that may need to get done.

  15. Reflecting on my resume, I feel that it is a presentation of my self, by showing all the effort I have put in up-till now for my future job. All the experiences and jobs I have done to keep building up, to be able to show future employees/boss. It shows that I know what I am doing, leaving a good first impression on my skills.
  16. Reflecting on my cover letter, I think it shows a good presentation of my self, showing that I care where and what I do for work. Showing that I was an elementary grade, in a good county where I have already worked and know that I connect well with. Making sure the workplace is a good environment and both sides work well together.
  17. Stress could be in many different areas of this job like wanting the student to succeed and them struggling, with getting all the lesson plans done, the pay of the job. When seeing a student struggling with a concept, after many different lessons, and activities, it is stressful. We want and need them to know it and some students take longer than others, and when on time crunch before a test or SOL, it is stressful. Making lesson plans is also a lot when making them for every little thing. Having to give a full detailed paper, for a 15 min lesson. The pay of this job is definitely a stressor, the pay isn’t good, and with the expenses of everything now while supporting a family is definitely something I worry about.
  18. The two modules of stress that are related are differential exposure model, and differential vulnerability model. When dealing with the pay of the job that is definitely differential exposure model. There is no way to have a coping resources for that, it is a stressor we can not control. Having to make many different lesson plans is definitely under differential vulnerability model, there are ways that I can help to make it easier for me, or planning ahead so I am not stressed that I need to do them all at the same time. And students falling behind/ struggling I feel that can be under both. I can keep finding different activities, resources and working one on one with them; which is under coping resources. While there will always be a stressor that someone is struggling and now letting me know, or knowing that they all will at different times.
