To whom it may concern,
It is truly an honor to have to opportunity to present this letter to you. Growing up, I was in a low-income family and personally struggled with severe mental illness. I always wished I would have the chance to help others the way people had helped me. Due to that experience and dream, I decided to pursue a future in social work.
Social work has molded me into a compassionate individual, who is hard working and driven. When I become involved with something, I am completely dedicated and determined to make a positive impact. I have learned to never give up, be open-minded and unbiased, and treat everyone with the love and respect they deserve. Social work has taught me to see the good in everyone and identify their strengths, even when others may not be able to. I wish to utilize all the knowledge and skills social work has given me, to provide an equitable level of service to all vulnerable populations.
The Appomattox Department of Social Services holds a special place in my heart. I grew up in Appomattox, so the feeling of home comes naturally there. Having already spent over 500 hours through an internship, it is obvious to me that I could spend many more there. The department has taught me a plethora of skills and has inspired me to help this growing population and implement positive changes to enhance the community.
I am open and willing to contribute to any aspect of the department, but my passion lies with child welfare. As a Family Service Specialist specializing in CPS, in-home prevention, FC, or adoption, I am willing to dedicate myself to helping these children and families on a micro level, but also attempting to affect the macro level as well. There are disparities in social welfare policy and I hope to advocate for our clientele to change this and provide a more beneficial possibility for our community.
