Civil Rights Movement-BlendSpace

This is a collection of resources that surveys multiple different mediums to cover the topic of the Civil Rights Movement. Resources include a text set with a variety of different texts on the Civil Rights Movement, as well as for an essential question of “Is fighting ever necessary?” Other resources include videos, articles, and interactive websites.

Locating Texts

This is an overview of sites that contain rich and informative literacy. There are many great resources from a variety of these sites that would prove to be beneficial in any content and any grade, digitally.

Rationale:

Engulfing students into a rich, literacy environment is important to their literacy growth. Students should be surrounded by multiple kinds of literacy, ranging from printed text to digital tools, they should have multiple access points. With using digital texts, it is essential that we are mindful of what sort of content we are providing to our students. One of my artifacts that represents this standard is a blendspace of resources that I cultivated for students to get a sense of the Civil Rights Movement. By using this resource, I was able to “integrate digital technologies into their literacy instruction in appropriate, safe, and effective ways’ (ILA 5.3). Also for this resource, I was able to “provide opportunities for student choice and engagement with a variety of print and digital materials to engage and motivate all learners” (ILA 5.2) From this resource, I was able to learn about how we can provide content to students in multiple different modes. Another artifact that supports my understanding of this standard is an assignment where I was able to synthesize websites that provide useful information via articles and videos by examining how useful these resources would be for my tutoring lessons. From this assignment, it showed me different ways that I could “integrate digital technologies”  (ILA 5.3) safely and that would help to support a “literacy-rich learning environment” (ILA 5.4).
