Lead by Example

I believe that social media can be used as a tool to increase civility by being an example to others. If people see you standing up for one another, being kind to others, and being authentic, then they may follow your lead. By using the deontological ethics perspective, it is one’s duty or obligation to do to the right thing. Also, virtue ethics shows how one can have moral excellence that is based off of being a good moral person. As a Christian, there is a lot of pressure on me to always do the right thing. Sometimes, I don’t always do the right thing; however, I have always been careful about how I portray myself, act, and react on social media. We are all human and make mistakes. It is not about how many mistakes you made or what you did, but instead, it is how you try to fix the situation. There may be consequences to your actions, but that is to help you learn from it. It is our job to be kind to one another; this world is crazy, and life gets confusing. Do not be the type of person that ruins other people’s days because of something you post on social media. Be a light to the world of darkness; lead by being a good example.

Ethical or not?

Ethical dilemmas are faced every day- especially on social media. Is it ethical to use profanity on social media? People grow up with a certain view of curse words. They may have grown up with parents that think it is immoral and wrong to use cuss words. Some may have grown up with a religion that makes using profanity against their beliefs. On the other hand, people may have grown up to believe that these are just words; they may see these words as just apart of their daily vocabulary. Profanity has always had a negative view. It is shown as ugly and trashy to curse. Nowadays, it is becoming more and more popular to cuss. It has started to be a form of expression. That leads me into this dilemma on social media. Should people filter their language on certain or all social medias? Should Instagram captions be different than Snapchat captions?
In my opinion, you should express yourself the way you want to. However, employers may follow your social media. You have to be careful who your audience is and know the way they may interpret what you are saying. You should always think before you post, because once your post is out there, you cannot get it back. Do you curse on social media?

Identity

Everyone identifies with something. It may be sexuality, race, gender, age, religion, or physical ability. Today, I will focus on religious and physical ability identity. Many people are discriminated against everyday for their beliefs or abilities. Accepting people for who they really are can change society in a major way.

Religious identity is believing in something higher than yourself; it comes in many different religions. In the past, people have been martyred for believing in Jesus. Things like this do not happen as often, but people are verbally persecuted for their beliefs.

Physical ability identity can be a positive or negative. People with disabilities have to live with people making fun of them for being themselves. These people are no different than people without a disability. People with an amazing physical ability can identify as this as well.

For me, I identify as a Christian, and I try to use my physical ability to play field hockey for Him and the people that are not capable. I do not show people very often what I believe in or that I am a Christian, but I am working on sharing who I am and sharing the Word of God. For physical ability, I can do a better job by not judging anyone. Sometimes, people tend to act different around disabled people, but I try my best to treat them as any other person. I want to treat everyone with love and kindness.

What can you do to express who you really are and what you can do to change society’s outlook?

A Little About Me

Hi everyone! My name is Jamie Wright, and this is my blog. Let me start off my new website by telling you more about me. I was born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky. Back in Louisville, I have my mom, dad, older brother, and two cats. Family is a very important aspect of my life. I also am a Christian, and I believe that God has blessed me with a wonderful life filled with family and friends. I am eighteen years old, and my passion is playing field hockey. I love being around children and helping people. I love how kids find joy in such little, simple things. I hope one day to be caring for or teaching children. These things are just a little bit about me!
