Survey Research

The best practices for survey research are simple. It is important to make items clear,
avoid double-barreled questions, questions must be relevant to the research, avoiding negative items, and avoid biased items and terminology. My research question will be, “Do the Family Fun Time Activities improve family involvement and how does the parent’s education attainment affect family involvement?”. To operationalize the dependent variable, I will ask “What did your child learn from these activities?”. This will help cover all the activities the families will be offered instead of focusing on a singular activity. To operationalize the independent variable, I will ask, “What level of education did you attain?”. This question will help establish a demographic of parents and their education level in correlation to family involvement. These questions are written to find overall enjoyment of the activities and to find a possible factor in family involvement.
