The first assignment is a Bad News Letter and the prompt of this project asked me to respond to a organization’s needs of a fundraiser location. As the managing teams of the hotel , it was my responsibility to deny the organization’s request due to the lack of funding that the hotel was receiving . In turn , this assignment got me to think outside of the box and compare the hotels values with the organization .

The second assignment is a Persuasive Letter and the prompt of this project asked me to write a letter opposing or arguing for online higher education . Within the letter I used logos and pathos to explain why students should have access to online higher education because it would be cost effective for low income families . The letter also had to be designed in a professional context because I was writing to the department of education .

Both of these assignments challenged me to write clearly, concisely, and correctly. The bad news correspondence letter was difficult in turn because no negative terms were to be used. Constructive criticism and a detailed amounts of reasons of why our organization could not provide the receiver’s needs was very important. I over came that challenge by constantly editing the “nod” intro.  The bad news letter assignment also was a challenge, because it was a group project with two other class peers. However, I liked this assignment because it prepared me for the final report group assignment by the end of the semester.

In the persuasive letter, the difficult part was convincing my audience why my point was valid or credible. As a result, I decided to do research on Longwood’s tuition cost and Farmville’s average family income. The research fits one of the course outcomes and my letter fit the block design as well.  These assignments allowed me to practice group collaboration, creating a set structure, conducting research, and using plain English effectively. I also had to use rhetorical strategies such as ethos, logos, pathos in both letters to sway the receiver of each letter to agree with our offer or opinion.
