my Travel Experience at Myrtle Beach, SC

It is that time of year when my work slows down. As previously stated in my “about me page”, I work as a park ranger. During the winter, the park has fewer visitors, thus I am only able to work a few days out of the week, rather than every day. Two weeks ago I had no work on the weekend. I thought to myself, “What the heck why don’t I just go to Myrtle Beach?” It was my first time, I went with my boyfriend, and I was overall very impressed. Here is a map of Myrtle Beach. As you can see the beach itself extends beyond the town Myrtle Beach, but the area from Surfside beach to North Myrtle beach is all called Myrtle Beach. My personal favorite part was Southern Myrtle Beach (surfside beach area).

We only stayed for one night, so that evening we decided that would go to the boardwalk. We ate dinner there at a restaurant called “The Crooked Hammock Brewery. The restaurant was very unique because it had a backyard for its guests to play cornhole or to sit around fire pits. The restaurant had a very welcoming atmosphere. They serve many Southern American dishes but with a twist. Some of these dishes included honey siracha fried chicken, pimento cheeseburgers, and a grilled cheese and apple sandwich. I tried the grilled cheese and apple sandwich and it was surprisingly delicious!

After dinner we then walked around the boardwalk and there were many shops. The whole boardwalk area was huge and was decorated with Christmas decorations everywhere. The boardwalk is very beautiful at night especially with the Christmas decorations. After strolling down the boardwalk, we called it a night and returned to our hotel.

The next day, we went to a restaurant called “Tupelo Honey” for breakfast. This restaurant is on the South side of Myrtle Beach. I loved this area because of its classy nature and many shops. The restaurant was upscale, yet surprisingly affordable. The waiter we had was very funny and attentive. I ordered blueberry pancakes which came with bacon and potato cracklings. Apparently, potato cracklings are giant breakfast potato wedges seasoned with old bay seasoning and parmesan cheese. Again, I was very impressed; the food tasted very fresh and palatable. This was the best breakfast I have ever had in all honesty. After breakfast we walked around the shops. There were a lot of clothing stores, a Barnes and Noble, and a southern living official store. The place had many palm trees and it was aesthetically pleasing.

Since it was our last day, we spent the rest of the day relaxing at the beach on the southside of Myrtle Beach. It happened to be 70 degrees out (in December!) and the beach looked very picturesque. Unfortunately, after relaxing on the beach, it was time to return back to Virginia.

Overall, I was extremely impressed with Myrtle Beach. There were so many upscale places for an affordable price. There were also many fun things to do that we unfortunately didn’t have time for such as go-karts, dinner shows, arcades, and amusement park rides. All of myrtle beach was very beautiful. I was also shocked with how there was still lots to do even though we technically went during the off-season (winter). I encourage everyone to visit Myrtle Beach, SC because it was oozing with gorgeous scenery and southern charm.
