I will always set aside time during the day to work one-on-one with students who may be having difficulties with particular subjects. During small groups, I primarily provide whole small group teaching, but I also implement one-on-one teaching, whether that involves having the group complete a task and assist specific students or going over material that the majority of my students need help understanding the topic.
The learner can speak honestly and openly with the instructor in a one-on-one learning environment. There is individualized attention, and the teacher will actively listen to the students. Additionally, they provide the learner with immediate assistance for issues and maintain their attention throughout. Individualized instruction enables students to learn at their own speed by giving them control over feedback and letting them choose what is best for them. In the end, personalized instruction fosters engagement in learning, morale, and student retention.
Within my one-on-one instruction, I turn to my students who could be having trouble and work with them on their DMRs, worksheets, homework, and study prep. During small groups, I am there to guide them so they are not entirely dependent on me by teaching them strategies like the foursquare method to help them with fractions or how to use manipulatives like base 10 blocks to help with decimals.
