Black History Month slides: Since I started my student teaching in February, I have been responsible for educating the students regarding Black History Month.  Buckingham Elementary has created a Black History Month slideshow, in which every day I present students with a few Black History Month figures and follow up with a class discussion to ensure my students understand and can ask questions.  I believe these slides regarding Black History Month are crucial because it allows not only the African American students, but the whole student body to learn and teach one another about one’s heritage.  Buckingham Elementary does a terrific job of ensuring all students of diverse backgrounds get both recognized and celebrated; especially since its school’s history involved segregation and important black history.  As an African American female, I can say it was very amazing to see a school value its diverse student backgrounds and I personally went over the slides because I want to educate every student regarding the importance of Black History Month, Black Historical Figures, and overall Black History culture.
