Reflection

I’ve never taken a dual enrollment or AP English class before, so I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from a college English class except a bunch of very long papers. I was wrong in a very good way. I learned SO much about how to write in college, and English 150 very much prepared me for future classes. I worked well with Dr. Lettner-Rust and I hope I can take more classes with her in the future.  She was very open with her students and valued our feed back. One thing that we started doing at the beginning of the semester was to visit the writing center each week. Great idea, but for those of us who really only wrote for her class, it was difficult because we didn’t always have something to take. I felt that I was taking up both my time and the writing center’s time. When she asked us a few weeks in how we thought it was going, most of us expressed similar feelings, and she ended up dropping that course requirement. She was easy to talk to and welcomed students to visit during office hours. I’ve continued to visit and ask advice even after the semester was over. Dr. Lettner-Rust broke down the writing process, taught us how to write a paper, and really nailed college writing. I’m so glad I took her class early on so that I was prepared for my future classes. Although I tended to procrastinate on work for her class, that of course was my fault; she was organized each day and as a whole, and broke things down so that they were manageable for new writers, and it helped us to be able to write an excellent final paper.

The first paper we worked on was a Literacy Narrative about the myths and misunderstandings about how we learn to write.

Our biggest assignment was to research a question we had about writing in the university. You can click here to read about preparing the next generation of university writers.
