Conclusion

This class happened to be a major requirement for me; however, I would recommend that every student at Longwood take a course such as this. The formal assignments presented in this portfolio are just a few examples of the ways in which we were able to sharpen our rhetorical writing skills throughout the course. I have already been able to use the skills I learned from this class in other contexts. For example, I served as the president of the University’s Sign Language Club for the 2018-2019 school year, and I just wrote a letter to our club’s philanthropy using a professional block letter format. I will also use this format in communicating with Radford University as I transfer to their school, as well as with clinics where I will seek externship opportunities. I know I will analyze brochures and other advertisement materials for therapy resources and technological devices, and maybe even create my own. I may also be required to write a formal report during my graduate coursework. For the specific Master’s degree I will be receiving, I am required to create a portfolio such as this one with a culmination of my graduate achievements, so this is also good practice for completing that. As college students prepare to enter the “real world,” it is important for us to develop a strong sense of professionalism, and a large part of that comes from our writing. Overall, this course has been exceptionally valuable for me and my future career.
