At the end of the summer of 2019, I and 13 other new LIFE STEM students went on a trip to Hull Springs Farm. My first thought of the farm was that it was a very big piece of land. When we arrived at the house, I came at ease as the house gave off a very homey feeling. I was very excited to get to know everyone and learning about the Chesapeake Bay.
During the course of the week, some of my favorite activities were kayaking, seeing the crab cages, learning about the life span of an oyster, collecting data from the water, poster making and meeting new people. I had met my current best friend on this trip, as she had decided to come as a mentor. The mentors made me feel a lot more included and accepted.
Honestly, I was glad they had moved the trip to somewhere off campus. I have a feeling that we would not have gotten the chance to get to be so close because I think that we would all sit in our rooms and not really interact. This trip truly gave me the chance to become closer with people in my cohort and in the LIFE STEM program as a whole.
