Personal statement
Hi, my name is Taylor Whitmarsh. I’m 20 years old and I’m a Kinesiology major with a minor in Psychology. Ever since I was young I’ve always wanted to help people be the best they can be. That’s why Kinesiology and Psychology interested me so much because I think it’s the best way to help people be the best they can be physically and mentally. I’ve had my struggles throughout the years but I found that treating my body right is the best treatment anyone can give to themselves and I want to teach and help people do that for themselves. I’ve played sports my whole life, growing up my mom was always signing me up to play or try something new. I have played everything from basketball, soccer, and cheer but my biggest love was soccer and that’s the sport I picked to play throughout my childhood. Even when I wasn’t playing a sport I was still outside doing something, fishing or playing tennis with my grandfather. My family always supports each other but I have to say my grandparents are my biggest support system and I became very close with my grandfather who taught me pretty much everything, how to swim, fish, and play tennis. I think I became really close with him because growing up I enjoyed doing more outdoor things than typical females do. My older sister spent a lot of time painting and shopping with my grandmother while I was off fishing with my grandfather. I guess you could have called me more of a tom boy than a girly girly. My grandparents always knew how important traveling and seeing the world was to me, I love to unplug from the world and enjoy seeing nature. My grandparents took me on many trips when I was growing up to see the beautiful parts of the world, but I think the best trip that I had was my trip to Jamaica. Where I spent a week traveling to all the beautiful parts of Jamaica without much cell service, which some say would bother them but I didn’t mind it. I love the world just as much as I love animals, I have been an animal lover since I was born. We currently have three dogs and two cats and all five of them are my world, but I would have to say I do have a favorite, Willow. Willow is my first animal, I picked her out when I was about 16 and I raised her since she was the size of my hand, she follows me around everywhere and doesn’t pay much attention to the rest of the household. Although, she is mad at me for going off to college she is always waiting by the door for me when I come home. I love my family and my animals, they all mean so much to me in many different ways. Having a great support system and the passion that I have for helping people and teaching them what this world has to offer, I know I am meant for this field. I know I will wake up loving what I do because I am helping people reach their goals physically and mentally and that’s all I could ask for. I think that is one of the most important factors in having a long good fulfilled life. Also, I know I will reach this goal because of the school that I am at, Longwood University, because this use to be an all girls school and it was one of the first and I’m all about female power and woman achieving anything they want in life.
