I have always valued the importance of academics. During my first semester at Longwood I received Dean’s List. I also received an invitation to join Alpha Lambda Delta Honors Society. I will continue to work hard in my classes to receive Dean’s list or President’s List in my remaining semesters at Longwood so that I can graduate with honors.
In November of 2019 I got the opportunity to compete in Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity Inc. Miss Black and Gold pageant. This was a scholarship pageant that is designed to recognize young ladies and showcase their talents and intellect. During the talent portion of the competition I showcased my poem “I’m Dreaming of a place.” This poem was my take on Martin Luther King jr. “I have a dream” speech. My poem allowed me to showcase a different point of view on current controversial issues facing America. I won the title of Miss Black and Gold 2019-2020. I am very thankful for this scholarship opportunity as it allowed me to express myself freely and spread light on important issues.
