During my freshman year at Longwood, I was given the opportunity to join a group called “My Life As A Freshman”. Me along with nine other freshmen, were told to document our first year experiences through journals, photos and sometimes videos. Over the course of the year, I wrote various journals that were then published on https://freshmanlife.longwood.edu. If you click on the link, you can see there are new freshmen now and the program kept going.
Being in this program gave me a lot of opportunities that I still utilize today. One of my more popular journals was published in the alumni magazine as well as on the Longwood University Facebook page, here’s a link to the post. Since then, I have had more of my work published in the alumni magazine and have worked with the editor on various projects.
This program allowed me to meet other freshmen and form friendships with them, to learn more about writing and meet some amazing faculty members of Longwood. I still talk to some of the people I met during this program, both peers and faculty. Being in “My Life As A Freshman” opened a lot of doors for me as I met new people and worked on my writing skills. I am so grateful for the experiences I gained during my time in this organization and the people I met. This is definitely a highlight of my journey at Longwood from both a personal and professional development standpoint.
