This course is within Communication Studies, but I took it to help fulfill my open elective requirements.
This is one of my favorite courses I have taken so far during my college career. During this course we learned about various aspects of design, both digitally and print, and we created our own pieces. I have always been fascinated with design work so I really enjoyed being able to learn more about it. We learned all about techniques in design, colors, fonts, alignment, contrast and so much more. My one big takeaway from this course was how intentional design work is. Everything is done with a purpose and intent in mind and I am a very detail oriented person so I really enjoyed this aspect of it.
Through learning more about design I also learned I how worked. We would often receive feedback from our professor on projects and were expected to improve with each design. This process of receiving feedback really helped me refine my work and to better improve it. It helped me be more open to criticism for my work which is very important in my major.
I would say being more open to criticism is something I leaned along with the material in this course. Being able to take criticism and improve your work is very important. This is a skill that I will definitely use in the future no matter my career choice.
Above is an event poster I created for this course. This was one of our earlier projects in which we had to redesign a poster that had already been created. I was to use some, all or add information to my design to better help the clarity of the poster. I also chose to use different colors, fonts and graphics to make it more visually appealing but to also serve as a functional informative piece.
