My name is Heather Waldo and I have chose Communication Studies as my major at Longwood. I chose Communication Studies because I thought it best incorporated many of the things I like to do. I have always had a passion for writing and photography so I thought Communication Studies would be the best fit for me. I am a little unsure on what kind of job I would like to get after graduation, however Communication Studies is a very broad field so I am certain I will find the job of my dreams some day.
As I previously mentioned, I have always loved writing and photography. I enjoy writing about topics I really care about, however I am pretty opinionated so I could probably write something about any topic. I mostly write about life lessons I’ve learned thus far and examining things on a deeper level. Writing is one form of expression I love to use whenever I can.
I also have a strong passion for photography. I remember in middle school I would go outside and take pictures in my yard just for fun, sometimes my dog would be in the photos too. As I grew older, I really found I like taking pictures to create a work of art, I try to find a setting or arrange models or objects in a way that looks artistic and portrays some type of message. I enjoy taking pictures of my dog (but that can be a little challenging at times) and of my friends. I love getting a group of my friends together and having a little photoshoot. I think exploring with different venues and poses is so fun to do. I also follow many photographers on social media to get some inspiration whenever I am unsure how to take a photo.
As I continue my journey at Longwood, I am almost certain my passion for the hobbies I’ve mentioned will grow into something I could have never imagined. I am eager to learn and expand my knowledge on topics I already know I like and also learn about new ones. I have a very good feeling that getting my education at Longwood will launch me into a career full of success.
