If any class was going to be a challenge for me, it would be Spanish. Something about me and foreign languages do not click well with each other, but seeing as it is a requirement to graduate from Longwood, I decided to get it over with during my sophomore year. To say that it was a struggle would be an understatement. However, for Intensive Beginning Language and Culture, I did manage to do fairly well in the class, and I think this had to do with Spanish culture being a large aspect of the course, especially in our final project, which you can see in the video above. Our project was to choose a Spanish speaking country (that was not Mexico), research various aspects of it’s culture (celebrations, food, unique phrases, etc…), and do a video report on the Country. My project was chosen on Argentina. During my project, I fell in love with Argentina as a country, it’s culture is fascinating, from the celebrations down to the types of food they enjoy. I’ve grown to love it so much that I am considering it as a destination for my study abroad plans. This project was worked on throughout the entire semester, and as such, I think that as my love for Argentina grew, it helped influenced my performance in the class, pushing me to do better and better. Finding something you are passionate about in any situation, even a negative one, can truly help you to push you to perform your absolute best, and I think this class is a perfect example of such a thing.
