Community

A picture of me after Color Wars ended.

What is community? To me at least, community is having a sense of connection to those around you. Community is a very essential aspect of the Honor’s College here at Longwood. Having a group of trustworthy people that you can rely on is important in so many ways. Color Wars in particular is a fantastic example of community building. I’m normally a very quiet and reserved person. I never really had much of an attachment to my community before coming here to Longwood. I mostly kept to myself and never participated in events such as sporting games, field trips, competitions, and other types of community activities. I was never able to develop that sense of connection to others for myself. Color Wars forced me to drag myself out and have fun with others for a change. There was exactly one point to Color Wars, and it was to have fun with your fellow classmates. This one seemingly simple game has taught me a lot as a person. I have to embrace my classmates and let them into my life. That is how I form life lasting friendships and meaningful connections throughout my lifetime. I need to become a part of this great community Longwood has invited me into.
