Flipped Classroom Model Explained
Discrete Mathematics was a very interesting class to take. Not just because of the material itself, but because of how we were taught the material. Due to this course only being a two credit hour class, a lot of students in the past had complained about having to little time in class to learn and practice the material. What my professor ended up doing was “flipping” the classroom. What flipping the class did was, we would watch videos of her lecturing on our own time outside of class. When we were in class, we would spend all of our time exclusively practicing what we saw in the video lectures. These video lectures were often both long and detailed, and as such, I personally needed to view them multiple times in order to gain full comprehension. I had to work on developing adequate time management skills for my workload, because if I was unable to stay caught up on the videos, I would have doubtlessly fallen behind everyone else. It was a hard change to adjust to, but I believe it was ultimately for the better as it provided me a unique challenge that no other class can quite provide here at Longwood.
