HONORS Music Appreciation

In my honors music appreciation class, we studied a wide variety of composers and their compositions. This class was during the time period that the vice presidential debate was held at Longwood. This inspired our teacher to create assignments based on politically movies in which we studied how the soundtracks of the movies impacted the viewers. My favorite project was completing research connecting a composer and my major, communication sciences and disorders. My project was on Erik Satie and Autism. This relates to my field of study because my client population will consist of those who have special needs. This project prepared me to take future classes such as child development. I spent many hours researching and discovering different theories behind the effects of music on autistic children. After completing this class, I had a deeper desire to change the lives of those who have special needs and solidified my want to complete a special education minor.
