My experiences in journalism include researching and interviewing sources to gain information about a specific topic in order to inform the public about the said topic. These experiences can be extremely beneficial in the disaster management field in various ways. I can research and write informative articles for a disaster management company about the services they offer to communities in the event of a disaster. I can also write notices about incoming disasters that can be distributed to the public to ensure that proper preparedness procedures are completed. Finally, I can interview individuals who have suffered from a disaster to research which procedures worked and which didn’t, allowing for critical improvement to the procedures.
Longwood Emergency Protocols Article
This article was published on October 7, 2017 shortly after various school shootings took place across the country. I interviewed various Longwood officials on the protocols they take regarding emergency preparedness and how they are implemented. The article itself brought information to the Longwood community about what plans are in place in the event of an emergency.
