Correspondence

By completing the Bad News Letter, along with the Persuasive Letter, I learned how to properly analyze and produce a particular writing genre that will commonly occur in my professional future, due to my major in communication studies and concentration in public relations. This skill correlates to Course Learning Outcome – #1. I particularly enjoyed the creative aspect incorporated within the these assignments. Personally, I believe that allowing students some creative freedom with assignments increases productivity and the overall desire to complete a piece of valid work. While this was not a course learning outcome, incorporating the development of creative and arguably witty thinking made this one of my favorite assignments. I incorporated a considerable amount of hypothetical situations containing logos and pathos. These were incredibly important for these type of documents, particularly the bad news letter, because when presenting bad news, one should use a combination of logical language and emotional appeal.
