Press Release

Just like the brochure, the purpose of this assignment was to create a new product and find an effective way to advertise it. For this assignment, we created a press release that was designed to showcase our product. The course outcomes for this assignment included “create professional documents that use plain English”, “create professional documents that use design”, and “participate productively in collaborative projects”. This was another fun way to develop business writing skills, especially using the eight C’s. We had to create a document that was concise and clear, all while trying to showcase our product in a way that would make people want to buy it. I learned a lot about the key parts of a press release to consider such as audience, proper technique, and how to properly use quotations.

This assignment was slightly more challenging than the brochure due to the fact that it did not have many graphics, so we had to find an effective way to still catch the eye through mainly text. We were able to overcome this challenge by creating a company logo that catches the eye and combined that with easy-to-read text that displays the highlights of the product. I really enjoyed this assignment and look forward to using the skills it taught me.
