Rhetorical Analysis

The rhetorical analysis project required students to critique ethos, logos, and pathos within a rhetorical text. The Rhetorical analysis project helped me accomplish the skill of being able to analyze the effectiveness of my texts and process it for rhetorical situations. After analyzing Vince Lombardi’s speech What it Takes to be Number One it helped me understand the importance of analyzing my own work to find areas that could be improved upon. The rhetorical analysis project gave the skills required to locate and identify ethos, logos, pathos, and other rhetorical strategies within a persuasive work. In return I am better able to use and identify rhetorical strategies within my own work. This project gave me insight on how to thoroughly read my work to identify persuasive strategies and find ways to improve them. Having to ability to analyze my text allows me to opportunity to better improve my work. For example, while analyzing Lombardi’s speech I found he did not overwhelm his audience with ethos but did provide an adequate amount. Analyzing the effectiveness of his strategy allowed me to incorporate a similar approach within my own work. For example, my group for the common good project analyzed our initial approach to ethos and decided to keep it short to prevent our group from coming across as arrogant.
