Love, Sex, and Friendship
This class was taught by Dr. Blincoe, whom I had a previous class with my freshman year. I chose to take this class because I enjoyed Dr. Blincoe’s citizenship class and how he made philosophical concepts easy to understand. He had described this class to me freshman year and I finally had a schedule that could allow me to take this class. In love, sex, and friendship, we discussed different philosophers’ views on these topics. Our main topics were platonic love, friendship, erotic love, and Christian love (which I was very surprised about. I did not think we would discuss a religious topic in a philosophy class). My favorite part about this class was learning about the different points of view and reading Plato’s Symposium.
This artifact is my Eros paper. For this assignment, we had to answer a prompt about one of the readings that we had read and discussed in the erotic love unit. Normally, I do not enjoy writing papers and I was not thrilled about writing this one. However, I do believe that this paper was a good practice for me. We were allowed to do a re-write after Dr. Blincoe edited and wrote notes on our paper. I think that I improved on my writing abilities due to this class.
