Conclusion

This semester we have learned the many aspects of rhetoric and its effect on or daily lives.  Depending  on your culture and how you were brought up depends on how you choose to react to it.  Rhetoric plays a part in every decision we make as concerned citizens in our communities.  Once you grasp the different concepts of rhetoric and how they are used, you can then make informed decisions for the many causes you care about and take pride in.  I thought I would end with a quote that really spoke to me:  “the willingness to alter your own position in the basis of democratic government, the first amendment, and the market place of ideas, all of which rely on the assumption that people will make reasoned decisions when presented with information and arguments.” (Rhetoric in Civic Life., pg.123).  This statement is the idealism of rhetoric within our civic eyes and is the true power of a democracy.
