Journal entries were used throughout the semester to ensure that we were fully comprehending the readings and how to apply the new knowledge. For each journal a paragraph was needed for the chapter as well as one visual aid. These journal entries allowed me to process the reading and then apply it. I was able to utilize these journal entries again, looking back at key concepts from each chapter, while writing my Rhetorical Analysis instead of having to re-read each chapter as I was writing. These assignments helped me meet learning objective number two, to understand the nature of public discourse/debate as determined by purpose, audience, and context. I will be able to utilize the rhetorical tools discussed in the document below in future writing prompts. While most of the time these journal entries were fairly easy to complete, sometimes it was hard to complete the reading and journal entry.
