Professional Profile:

My name is Jozie Minter, I am a senior at Longwood University studying Social Work. During my time at Longwood I have led Younglife, served as the secretary for Phi Alpha Social Work Honor Society and Federation of Student Social Workers. I have helped run educational groups with children from Prince Edward County Elementary School and have been an active member of the Farmville community.

My hope is to attend graduate school next year to continue my Social Work degree. Career goals include getting my masters and becoming a Licenced Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with a specialization in school Social Work. I am interested in mental health, school social work, and adoption/foster care. My interest in mental health sparked after I completed an internship at Crossroads Town House. Town House is a psychosocial rehabilitation day program for adults with severe mental illness. This internship is large part of the reason I would like to become a LCSW.  Next semester, I will be completing a 500 hour internship to complete my undergraduate degree! This will take place with Appomattox County Public Schools. I will be conducting day program mental health support groups and working with children who are autistic. I am excited to see how this shapes my view of the world and how it shapes myself as a citizen leader.

Fun Fact: I also aspire to own a golden retriever who will be named Rufus, he will be a certified service dog so that he can help the children and families that I get to serve.

ePortfolio Purpose and Content:

This blog is a compilation of my best works from my English 400: Advanced Writing Seminar, which were completed in my final semester of classes for my undergraduate degree! This website includes my journal entries, a rhetorical analysis, the Common Good Project, and a conclusion.This semester I have learned more about being a citizen leader and saw how the skills that I have gained in my social work classes are similar to classes such as this one.  I was able to meet the course objectives that are listed below. Through informal and formal projects, I have learned how to intentionally and correctly utilize rhetorical tools such as ethos, pathos, and logos. I have gotten to experience different world views and was able to incorporate these different views of public issues into my writing, which has allowed me to become a better, more well-rounded citizen leader. The writing skills and the newfound understanding of public discourse/debate will follow me into my next chapter of life, a 500 hour internship as a school social worker. The ability to use rhetorical tools will help me communicate with clients and complete paperwork more effectively.

Course Objectives

1) engage in the process of citizen leadership by investigating multiple perspectives on important public issues

2) understand the nature of public discourse/debate as determined by purpose, audience, and context;

3) choose appropriate formats in writing for a variety of purposes;

4) analyze the effectiveness of their own texts and processes for specific rhetorical situations;

5) understand how the knowledge, skills, and values learned in general education are interwoven and interrelated, and how they can contribute to the process of citizen leadership.
