Reflection
A rhetorical analysis is a study of how a writer or speaker utilizes words to persuade a specific audience. In my English writing seminar class, I was required to write a rhetorical analysis on an article or document related to my common group project main topic. I decided to write about a research study on the benefits of the use of technology in the classroom. The methods I used to analyze the effectiveness and reliability of the authors of the article, was by utilizing Aristotle’s three main ideas on the art of persuasion which are ethos, pathos, and logos. These elements provided me with a framework to structure my papers, which helped me achieve the course learning objective number three which is to choose appropriate formats in writing for a riety of purpose. In addition, another course learning objective that I was able to fulfill was to understand the nature of public discourse/debate as determined by purpose, audience, and context. The development process of this assignment gave me a better knowledge on the uses of elements of the art of persuading an audience, at least one of Aristotle’s elements needs to be present on a speech or written document to achieve persuasion. And I also learned how important is to provide examples to support or justify your claims. Otherwise, you will not be perceived as a very reliable speaker or writer.
