Since coming to Longwood, I have done countless hours of community service in and around campus and Farmville. During the Honors retreat, I volunteering at a local senior center and with my sorority, I have spent 11 hours at Relay for Life, I volunteered at Spring Weekend, and I participated at Adopt- a- highway.
The first half of my sophomore year was filled with service. Through my sorority, we raised money for the Shelter for Help and Emergency in Charolleville by doing a 24 hours swing-a-ton. For 24 hours, my sisters and I sat on the swing outside of the library in the cold and through a tornado warning to raise money and awareness for domestic violence. My favorite community service that I did was a volunteer at the Southside SPCA. Almost once a week, my friends and I would go to the shelter to socialize with the dogs and help the workers in any way they needed. Unforntinally once Covid-19 hit I was unable to do any service since basically the whole world was shut down. Hopefully next year I can make up for this time and do twice as much service!
