About Me

Flexibility.  Adaptability.  Resiliency.

Hi, I’m Whit.  I’m a Liberal Studies major with a passion for social justice.

My ability to be versatile is one of my main strengths in both written and oral communication.  To date, I have participated in four different speaking panels on campus to a variety of audiences.  One panel was Fearless Foursome, in which I discussed the challenges of being an LGBT+ student both in college and high school.  I had an opportunity to speak with potential students on what it’s like to be a Longwood student during Crash On Campus.  Lastly, I was invited to talk about my experience as a disabled person who was bullied for the majority of my school career by being both disabled and LGBT+.  I was pleasantly surprised when I was praised for my delivery and execution of my story.

My passion for social justice and my identity as an intersection of minority communities led me to engage in Longwood’s Pride organization and take a position of Newsletter chair.  This position forced me to think critically about the media that I chose to display and allowed me to delegate tasks to other members of the committee I oversaw.  Additionally, I kept a running section that encouraged positive ways to deal with mental and physical health.  This position not only sharpened my writing abilities, but also taught me how to delegate and prioritize tasks as well as time management.  It is with these strengths in mind that I wish to serve the community in some capacity as a versatile, self-starting writer.
